Your End of Year Reflection

Can you believe that not only the year is coming to a close but also this decade?! As this year is coming to a close, let's make sure to not jump and skip (and maybe the desire is to run for you) over into 2020. For many with the new year coming it can be easy to think “holy cow I’m so glad the year is over!” and then to be focused on the goals for the next year. Instead, it’s important to take a pause and reflect on the last year in gratitude. Let’s slow down and honor all that that has occurred for you.

Reflection

What I would love for you to do is to not move too quickly into 2020 without first slowing down and celebrating what has happened for you in 2019. I understand that perhaps this past year may have been hard overall, or maybe there was good but also some points of difficulties that occurred. I get it. That has happened to me as well. We can’t expect the year to be in perfect happiness, just as you can’t expect yourself to be in perfection

If you get consumed by the idea of leaving 2019 in attempts to get away from the negative that has happened or without even celebrating the greatness, then you're not honoring the good that has happened for you. I want you to slow down and allow yourself to soak in the good so you can bring that energy with you into the new year. With this, you will help create an intentional movement from 2019 and enter into 2020 with calm, grounding and gratitude

How?

Take at least 30 minutes to find a place to sit and be cozy to reflect and journal on your year. Really take some time to allow your mind, body, and heart to acknowledge the question and receive the answers. If a part of you wants to focus on all the negative of the year, give that part of you an internal hug and gently ask that part of you to step aside to allow space for reflection on the good. Importantly, it’s not that we are ignoring the hardships. Instead, we want to make sure that there is a balance. If you need to take a break when you answer these questions below that’s OK. Each time you sit down and reflect, make sure it’s intentional.

What has been good for me?

What accomplishments did I have?

What goals did I meet?

What happiness did I experience?

What memories do I want to cement and bring with me into 2020?

What gratitude do I have for myself?

What gratitude do I have for my relationship?

What were the highlights of the year?

What gratitude do you have for how I handled any hardships?

What changes and growth do I want to honor that happened within myself?

What changes and growth do I want to honor that happened in my partner?

What changes do I want to honor that happened in my relationship as a whole?

How do I feel right at this moment as I reflect on 2019 in this way?

When you reflect on these questions, make sure to really honor the feelings they arise in you. Identify where they are coming up in your body. Let any emotion that needs to move through, move through. And, keep any goodness inside that you want to hold with you as you move into the next year. Make sure to not let any thoughts of what you want next year to seep in just yet. There will be time for the future focus later. Right now you are creating space for you and your year that you had. Honoring this year and all the energy that you put into it. Because even with any hardships, this year has been truly a gift for you.

Celebrate

Once you are done with your cozy reflection. Decide how you want to celebrate your year. How do you want to honor all the goodness that you experienced? Do you want to share all your reflections with a friend? With your partner? Do you want to treat yourself to a lovely new candle? To pop a bottle of bubbly? It doesn’t matter how you celebrate and honor the past year, the key is to do something to truly seal in the good and add that exclamation point at the end of the year!
